Security Pt 1: Is At-Home LED Light Therapy Safe? Here's What You Need to Know.

Frequently Asked Questions About Novalight LED Light Therapy

Did you know that most LED devices marketed today have no clinical data proving their safety or effectiveness? It's well known! With over 40 peer-reviewed clinical studies and twenty years of experience, our LED technology has proven to be very safe and effective, with no adverse effects, no downtime, and painless. Our devices generate neither heat nor UV and are suitable for all skin types.

Although LED light therapy is a safe and natural treatment, not all LED devices are created equal. When looking for an LED device, it is important not only to determine its effectiveness by evaluating the quality and types of LEDs used, the strength and concentration of light, output energy, and the consistency of the wavelength, but also to ensure that the device has been properly tested and authorized by the FDA. The Novalight team took care of all the heavy lifting to ensure that our products meet all US and international safety testing standards (eye safety, we haven't forgotten you). All Novalight devices are FDA authorized and TGA (Australia) approved for the applications for which they are intended.

We know that there can be many questions about LED devices, which is why we asked our customer service team to compile the most common questions we receive.

Here are the answers to your most frequently asked questions.

Is it really safe for the eyes?

Yes! Our masks are very safe for the eyes and do not require eye protection. All our devices have been tested and comply with medical device standards, including the IEC/EN 62471 standard for photobiological eye safety. However, if you suffer from photosensitivity disorder, light-induced headaches, or any genetic eye disease, we advise against using them.

Can I use the Novalight LED devices if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Our products have not been studied in pregnant or nursing women. Therefore, we advise you not to use them during this particular period, unless your doctor agrees.

Can retinol or retin A be safely used?

Skincare or cosmetic products containing retinol can be used with Novalight devices if there are no precautions regarding light exposure. For users taking prescribed levels of Retin A such as tretinoin, we do not recommend using light devices as there is a risk of reaction. Taking Retin A should be discontinued for at least five days before performing light therapy treatments. People who use cosmetics or skincare products containing retinol should carefully read the product's instructions to be aware of warnings and precautions regarding light exposure.

Can light therapy worsen my psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea?

Some studies show that red and near-infrared light therapy can be effective in reducing redness and inflammation and improving the overall complexion of the skin in cases of rosacea, psoriasis, and eczema outbreaks. Result: instant relief - literally. However, Novilight has not been specifically tested for these skin conditions. It is always best to consult your dermatologist and refer to our list of contraindications before using Novalight.

Can I use LED light therapy with Botox or fillers?

Yes, in fact, red and near-infrared LED light can help alleviate any bruises you might experience after fillers. Studies have even shown that users felt their Botox treatment lasted longer when combined with light therapy. Novalight light therapy treatments complement Botox or filler treatments, and their results can be enhanced.

Pro tip: Use your device before AND after injections for better results and faster healing time. You'll thank us later.

Can it be safely used every day?

You can use your Novalight device every day, but we recommend using it 3 to 5 days a week for optimal results.
